Job Opportunity:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Underwriter in the team to join our Construction & Technical Property (including Power, Pulp and Paper, Chemicals) team in the Nordics based in Stockholm.
You will be the second person joining the team which means there is a big opportunity to contribute and support in the shaping of the Nordic Construction & Technical Property portfolio.
The focus will be on underwriting complex risks and engage in market activities to continue to establish the BHSI footprint in the Nordics.
We are seeking an experienced individual who is engaged, passionate, social and always striving towards excellence, in both underwriting and collaboration.
You should be comfortable working closely with actuaries, the Claims team, and underwriters from across the broader team. In addition, necessary character, relationship building and negotiating skills to help lead and further build a profitable book of business are of the upmost importance.
The successful candidate will be focused on a positive customer experience, while maintaining sound underwriting discipline. This position is a great fit for an experienced Senior Property Underwriter looking to expand their responsibilities and underwriting knowledge with an experienced unit within a top global insurance company that is in the early days of its regional establishment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support the development and build-out of Construction & Technical Property in the Nordics that is consistent with the teams focus on profitable growth
- Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships
- Underwrite accounts while ensuring appropriate analysis and documentation without sacrificing discipline, diligence, and quality service
- Underwrite complex and challenging risks while developing creative solutions for our brokers and customers
- Support and contribute to the successful launch of BHSI Nordics
- Effectively communicate BHSI value proposition
- Be a positive reflection on the company by demonstrating integrity and leadership in the marketplace
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of Underwriting experience
- Existing broker and customer relationships, or the experience and ability to develop strong broker and customer relationships quickly
- Strong underwriting acumen
- Experience and strong understanding of policy forms, including broker manuscripts
- Strong collaboration and team building skills
- Strong communication skills including negotiation and presentation experience
- Customer meeting experience with an ability to obtain valuable insights into company exposures via dialogue with senior executives
- Willingness to travel
