Job Opportunity:

BHSI has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Construction Underwriter based in our Hong Kong Branch. The role is to grow and manage a Direct (in Hong Kong & Macau) & Facultative (in Northeast Asia) construction portfolio. Reporting to the Head of Construction Underwriting, Asia, this role combines technical underwriting expertise with strong broker and customer engagement to drive profitable growth

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite and manage a Direct (in Hong Kong Macau) & Facultative (in Northeast Asia) construction portfolio.
  • Analyze, price, and deploy capacity for CAR/EAR risks in line with Group guidelines.
  • Develop new business and strengthen relationships with brokers, intermediaries, and cedants.
  • Contribute to portfolio strategy, planning, and forecasting.
  • Collaborate across underwriting, claims, compliance, and other functions.
  • Monitor market trends, activity and emerging construction risks and share with relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering (Civil Engineering a plus), or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • 8–15 years of progressive underwriting experience, preferably within construction underwriting.
  • Deep understanding of construction insurance products, underwriting practices, and market dynamics.
  • Highly self‑motivated and able to operate independently, while consistently applying sound underwriting discipline to meet strategic objectives.
  • Strong technical proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications and relevant pricing, catastrophe modeling, and analytical tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain strong broker and customer relationships, and collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders across functions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across Asia.
  • Mature, confident professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong entrepreneurial mindset with a genuine desire to build and contribute to long‑term value in a sustainable, “forever” business.
