Job Opportunity:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Underwriter specialized in Chemical Occupancies to join the German Property team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and underwriting Energy property business and specifically Chemical property business across the territory. You will pre-qualify new business, analyze property risk exposures and make sound underwriting decisions. Additionally, you will be responsible for profitably developing and growing the portfolio through production and marketing calls with brokers and customers. The title of the role will be commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Solicit and underwrite new and renewal property submissions
- Grow the chemical property book of business
- Establish, develop and expand broker and customer relationships, working both independently and in conjunction with other BHSI product lines as well as with the BHSI risk engineering team
- Analyze reports such as catastrophe modelling, risk engineering reports, valuation documentation, etc.
- Review and approve policy terms and conditions
- Work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity
- Travel within territory
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- 10 + years commercial insurance experience with a special focus on chemical accounts
- Strong existing broker and client relationships
- Strong underwriting acumen and attention to detail
- Strong understanding of policy forms, including broker manuscripts
- Strong collaboration and team building skills
- Strong communication skills including negotiation, communication, and presentation experience
- Willingness to travel
- Sound academic track record, preferably graduate in chemical engineering
- Fluency in German and English
