Job Opportunity:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Technician (UT) General Property with focus on Large and multinational accounts to join us preferably in Cologne, alternatively in Munich, Frankfurt or Hamburg. The Underwriting Technician (UT) will work within and support the underwriting team and will perform tasks to directly support the underwriting process including pre-quote, pre-bind, bind and post bind transactions. The UT will also perform additional underwriting support activities associated with information gathering and rating for new business, renewals and midterm changes. Additionally, the UT will assist with electronic file preparation on behalf of the Underwriter.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support underwriters with all activities related to account development
- Build electronic files and ensure file integrity
- Coordinate policy issuance and liaise with Operations team
- Triage broker submissions and ensure all required underwriting data is accurate
- Draft quotes and binders and review with underwriters
- Correspond with brokers; follow up on outstanding information
- Act as a representative of the Operations function within the Underwriting team
- Provide inputs to relevant actuarial tools and modelling templates
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Minimum commercial or technical education, preferably with insurance relevant experience
- Alternatively 5+ years of commercial multinational property insurance experience
- Analytical, able to be proactive and use own initiative
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven competency in MS Office applications
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Customer focus. Able to build and maintain relationships with our customers and business partners, and with internal teammates
- In-depth understanding of policy construction, rating and policy issuance
- Working knowledge of forms for products serviced
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Ability to work as a part of a team
